My manager told me I was lucky for making $16 an hour

I 17(f) work full-time as a line cook, six days a week. I requested my one day off a week to be Saturday, I was denied and given a Tuesday instead. I am literally 17 and spend all of my time working, nothing about that is lucky. I am not lucky to be making $16 an hour, that’s the bare minimum I should be making working this many hours at a company that can barely staff a kitchen. My manager is in his 40s and comparing the wage he made at blockbuster working part-time in high school to what I am paid. Probably not that much of a difference with inflation anyways. He was telling me how him and his wife thought it was so cool I am making that much money an hour at my age. Did he expect me to thank him? I don’t understand why they think…

Did he expect me to thank him? I don’t understand why they think you need to worship them because they pay you just enough to keep you working, when the amount of money you make has no effect on them whatsoever. They act like it’s not in their own self interest to have employees.
