As the title says, this’ll be a quick “here’s my story” type of post.
When I was 18, I was going into my 2nd ever job. As this was a gas station, I was told the beer coolers will always be locked before I get in, as to not get them in trouble with local law enforcement. I was cool with that. Manager gets in at 5am, how many alcoholics will be in between 10pm and then? Oh lord, I never expected so many on my first day (all after training).
There were at minimum 10 people in the store, all complaining about no alcohol sales. Their coaxing words? “Do it before I f-ing end your existence!” Cops refused to do anything, which highly surprised me as I was taught that the cops would always be there to protect and help if things escalated.
Well, once people started physical destruction against the store, I called my boss to tell him. He did not answer. Tried again 15 minutes later, still nothing, but by this time they’ve already broken (literally) into the beer coolers. I gave up and waited until the whole mob left the store, then called store support… Turns out I was hired in with a slight alteration to my age- I was in their systems as a 21 year old. I told store support “y’all best get the manager here asap. I’ve tried twice to no success, video shows police walking in and immediately leaving, and at this point I’m just thankful to be unharmed.
Manager arrives, it’s around 1:15am. His boss gets there shortly before and chews him out hard. I was asked by the district manager to go home with a week’s pay (which was nice), but to not return since I was under age.
Two days later, I got another gas station position- this one refused to sell alcohol, so for me it was a win-win.
