Hey everyone, I'll give a brief overview of the situation:
She's been working at the same company for six years. They've treated her very well, allowing her to work remotely when she moved across the country with no issues. She's exceptional at her job and essentially runs her department. She picks up extra work with no hesitation, and often does the work of her bosses for them. So a few years ago when a position opened up that she deserved, instead of speaking to her the ceo gave the position to a friend of his instead. That's when things started to go downhill. Since then she's been strung along with the possibility of moving up to a new position with lots of vague promises. Today, she put in her two weeks notice and is feeling terrible. In two years, child support payments will cease and she will need to supplement that income. We decided that it's better to look for a position now that has real upward mobility than stay in the same position with more empty promises and struggle when her income is slashed.
So r/antiwork, what would you do? Would you continue to overwork yourself in the hope that one day they follow through on their promise to move you up? Or would you seek better positions that right off the bat show huge opportunities for earning potential and growth?
Edit: to clarify, she has already accepted a new position at the same exact salary with better benefits, and several ways to earn more on top of her base salary
