For a bit of background, I am currently unemployed, living in France, and I am lucky enough to make enough on unemployment where I don't need to worry about money too much. This means I can be picky about my next job.
Now as a software engineer who tasted WFH with COVID I decided that I would focus on trying to get a full WFH job next.
Enter this company, they contacted me out of the blue, for a full remote position that paid 45k/year (a very decent income where I live).
We started with a face to face interview (online of course) after which they asked me to work on 3 different assignment to assess my technical skills (they were fairly fast to do took me about 3 hours total)
Then we had 5 other face to face interview with different management, yes 5, F I V E. I have no idea why I put up with this crap, but I did.
And after that it still wasn't done.
They asked another skill assessment, this time i could tell from a look that it would take a lot longer, as in close to a week of full time work.
And on top of that they wanted me to send them :
-
A copy of my national Identity Card, as well as any passeport
-
A written letter of recommendation from all of my previous employers
-
And, most invasive of all : they wanted me to make a video tour of my entire house and send it to them. They justified their reasoning as “wanting to make sure I had a valid work environment”
Needless to say, I completely ghosted them.
