Antiwork

My new boss sent me an email and I’m not happy about it, I haven’t even set foot in my new job yet.

Yesterday evening I received an email from my new boss. I start a new job next week For background I interviewed for this job weeks ago and there has been a huge lag (very big international company) between the interview and getting the official job offer. I have overseas holiday booked for Sept. As soon as I got the offer I immediately accepted and informed them of my holiday plans. That was 3 weeks ago nearly. So last night my boss emails me and basically says that my holidays do not suit the team but as I have already booked them they will just have to try work around them. What was the point of that? There was no practical reason to tell me that except to let me know that she was pissed off but would let it slide. Sure reply acknowledging my booked holiday, reply telling me that…

Yesterday evening I received an email from my new boss. I start a new job next week

For background I interviewed for this job weeks ago and there has been a huge lag (very big international company) between the interview and getting the official job offer.

Sure reply acknowledging my booked holiday, reply telling me that I might have to take unpaid leave, reply with something factual and practical.

We all know employees taking time off is never good for the team. We all know we have to work around it. It’s just part of running an office. People are entitled to time off and sometimes when you hire someone new they already have plans in place that need to be accommodated. People are not going to suspend their lives on the off chance one of their job interviews might pay off.

I feel her email was a bit rude and now I’m dreading next week and my first day there.
