Not sure where to start but I worked for a decently sized craft beverage business in my area that I will not name here. Basically we have 3 locations the main one we will call “Main” while the other 2 are their smaller locations. The latter 2 locations are where I was doing most of my work.
I was asked to come help out at Main and train up one of the new guys that just started which I was happy to do, I was told this would last a week. Then another week goes by and I’m still scheduled over at Main and told I will be going back to my other facilities the next week. Well another week passes again and I’m told the same thing on that Monday. Keep in mind my mentor/colleague has been staying over at the latter locations doing all the work alone, we will come back to him later. So Tuesday of that week (just the other week) rolls around and I’m doing my normal morning routine when I noticed the CEO and Operations manager were making rounds to 4 different people to speak with them briefly(no HR department in this company at all btw)it took a minute for me to register what was happening but not long after we were all called into a meeting where the remaining surviving staff was told what had happened. 4 people laid off including: a new guy on his second week with a ton of potential, 2 employees with 4-5 years of time and experience working with the company, and a young man who had just recently been through numerous life changing events just before this that I won’t mention. All for the sake of “downsizing” and trying to “make the company fun again”(before anyone asks I still don’t know what the fuck that means or how this will help accomplish that) I shit you not hearing this man(ceo) so desperately try to justify why he just ruined the lives of four people was haunting to say the least. It gets worse apparently my mentor had known about this but was told to not say anything.. as a result of this I was stripped of my original position and told to pick up the slack of the people they laid off. THATS RIGHT, they never did any downsizing at all and just wanted to save money. After all of this happened 2 other people left and then I put in a 3 days notice because I got an offer at a way better, more stable and professional establishment. I can’t believe no one was given any notice I feel so bad for those who were fired.
