In November I moved, officially, from my previous role in Finance tool development to a technical position more focused on what the company actually does.
My previous role was cash money. I got paid to literally do nothing after covid hit. The company was going through a restructuring so until the company could figure out how the numbers were going to work, I and my manager couldn't do anything. I told him that I'm literally making money not doing anything and he's like yeah me too.
Sounds great, but this guy is a grade A asshole.
He's super racist and only around the other white ppl he's chummy with, he did a really bad Asian accent once to pretend to be our Asian part.. with several Asian stereotypes thrown in.
He's super misogynistic. In a video conference with our European group that's made up of several women, he would not stop going on about how their manager is lucky to be working with such beautiful women, how good they look, and how he's not sure he can go on, can they understand what he's about to talk about? Gross.
We developed a finance tool, and when one of the staff was trying to use it they pulled us in to get clarity. This staff person was Indian, my mgr would constantly interrupt him and condescendingly speak to him and belittle him, and in the same breath would talk to another white staff member requesting the same clarification with patience and jokes. It was too obvious.
Off handed jokes about men's wives, sisters, etc. Just common place. He once asked a coworker who wife was expecting, if the baby is his or the mailman's.
Just terrible person. So when I said, hey I'm making money doing nothing and he said the same. It wasn't out comradery, it was selfishness, and just grossness.
Eventually with a lot of trouble and underhandedness, I changed jobs in that same company but for another more technical group.
Fast forward to last week.
I get a message from the sleezeball, saying hey I changed jobs and I need you to help close out the new version of the tool.
I gave my congrats on the job, but I'm not going to be helping with anything else.
See while I worked under him, I literally did everything. I updated the tool, made the presentations, and automated things. His job too. However, during covid. I automated.. EVERYTHING. and released it to the staff.
I couldn't get by during covid doing nothing and getting paid. I felt guilty. So I did all the extra projects and worked on my coding skills.
So now, the only way to release a new version is to update the code and my previous mgr does not know code… At all.
I deleted all the commenting in my code, and also I'm just too busy now. 🙂
