For background I am 20 years old, graduated HS in 2020 with an AP diploma and am not attending college because I don't think it's worth the cost. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm still not sure yet.
I was recently laid off working as a design engineer due to a “low workload”, and my parents, whom I live with, asked me what I look for in a job.
Apparently “appreciation” and “not being exploited” was the wrong answer.
They kept going on and on about how I work for a company and that I need to do whatever they tell me to keep the business afloat, and that I should be lucky to have a job.
It's funny because my father is a captain at JetBlue making around 200k a year and my mother works for American Airlines making around 65k a year, both in their late 50's, obviously on the wealthier side of things. But we don't live like it aside from the house.
So, am I asking too much? At this point, I'm starting to think I am. Finding a job is unnecessarily hard, even when I exceed the qualifications.
