My position is so worthless that on the weekends when I’m the only one “there” I’ll just leave and do something for a few hours. Saw Bullet Train in the theater today!

I get paid $16/hr for a job that doesn't really need me. I don't want to get too specific but basically I'm a janitor. If something actually needs to be done, sure I'll do it. That's like 20% of the days though, seriously. The area's that need to be cleaned are cleaned daily. So the day I have those areas I usually won't (and to be honest, don't need to) clean them because they are cleaned so well on the days other people do it. I slowly eased into it to see if anyone would catch on and now I'm at this point. Been like this for about 3½ months now. On the days where I'm on an area where my boss is around that day, I can usually get her chatting about politics or something and she'll go on for an hour or so. I work part time so…

I slowly eased into it to see if anyone would catch on and now I'm at this point. Been like this for about 3½ months now. On the days where I'm on an area where my boss is around that day, I can usually get her chatting about politics or something and she'll go on for an hour or so. I work part time so by the time she's chatted until lunch and she leaves for the break room I'll go ahead and clock out, having done about an hour or 2 of actual work. On the weekends I work, but my boss is always off and I'm the only janitor on shift. So I'll make an alibi with the workers of the facility and then dip out for a few hours.

My boss really likes me, and she says if and when she eventually moves on from this job she'll probably offer me the promotion to her position. I've literally hardly lifted a finger and I'm her favorite employee.

Do I feel bad for slacking off? Kinda. But not enough to give a shit.

I wouldn't be too bummed about getting promoted either, as all she does is make the schedules, train people, attend meetings, etc. Which sounds simple enough and the pay raise would be significant.
