I used to work in a hospital. I knew on the employee side it was terrible. My department wasn’t offered the same extra pay for dealing with COVID patients and we had 10 hour shifts with a 30 minute break. I had to sneak out to my car for the occasional cigarette to make it every day. The nurses were lazy and talked straight garbage about every patient.
After I had my son, I spent time in that hospital on the patient side of things. I was told that the delivery nurses were the best in the whole hospital so I was comforted by that. Our son ended up in the NICU and we were told that we could see him that night. The nurse ignored our call light all night. And the next morning when we asked if we could go, they caught an attitude with me. We were then ignored or mocked behind the door for our whole stay in that room.
I took my medical leave, went back to work one more day to make sure I keep my leave pay per contract, and then never came back. I have a new job writing personal loans with the same pay and full benefits (paid for medical, dental, paid for lunch, 1 hour break, the whole nine yards).
I get a call last night from my former boss asking what it would take for me to come back. I told her 25 an hour and full benefits. She acted like it was outrageous but I told her exactly how we were treated in that hospital and I would never walk into there as a patient or an employee for less.
The nerve for her to call me tbh.
