My Quitting Story

I (19f) worked at McDonald's for a year, from 2019 to 2020, quit just before covid started. My boyfriend and I both worked there and we would generally work longer than normal for almost every shift (an hour or two extra). Not only because they were so short-staffed and desparate, but also so we could carpool home after. The day I quit, both of us had been asked to come in early, and had been asked to stay an hour or so later due to a surplus of people calling out. We didn't mind the extra time so we accepted. After working for nearly 11 hours with no break and no food, I felt like absolute shit. It was around 11:30pm and I remember that they scheduled me for 7am the following morning. I was pretty upset that they had called us in knowing they wouldn't be able to provide us with adequate breaks.

I kindly went up to the shift manager, who had only been there a few weeks, and told her that I felt pretty sick and I wouldn't be coming into work the next morning, about 8 hours ahead of time.

Mind you this is a fast food restaurant, and the terms in my peperwork when I was hired stated that as long as I told them more than 3 hours ahead, I was able to call out.

She then told me that due a supervisor change, it has been changed to three DAYS notice if you're sick.

I paused for a moment, honestly dumbfounded, and asked, “How would I know if I'm sick three days ahead of time?”

She shrugged off my question and proceeded to inform me that if I were to call out, I would recieve a written discipline notice.

I politely said ok, and left. My boyfriend and I never went back or contacted again, fuck them!

On another note, they told me I had to stop ordering the double quarter pounder as my free lunch during my shifts because I was using too much product. WTF
