TL;DR – there must be an asshole company handbook because my story is literally the same as 90% of the other resignation posts here.
Context: in 2 years I grew this company a 0 to $12m yearly revenue stream with a team of 4. I found another job that now pays me a life changing amount more.
Now, let's play resignation BINGO!!
- Immediately asked if the new role would be covered by their non-compete – e.g. “You are not legally allowed to take it”
- Second thing they asked, right after asking about the non-compete: “Can you move your leaving date by THREE MONTHS. Pretty please we really need you and it will take 3+ months to find a replacement”
- Asked for time to counter. Took a week. Came back without a meaningful increase.
- Denied me a small title bump previously. At the new title, my resignation period would have automatically increase to 3 months (was two weeks when I left). you_played_yourself.jpeg
- Gave me a ridiculous pay bump of 3% in 2021 when inflation was like 4% (at end of last year)
Anyway, I just wanted to say, I used to read this and scoff at people who say “I found another job that paid me double and it was so great”. Don't. You too can do it. Please do it, for your sake.
