The person who puts in the schedules at my retail grocery store job was going on vacation and they are too lazy to have someone else trained to put schedules in the system despite the fact my book keeper could do it. We had a show store where we have a shit ton of people come in basically set the store up how they want for the summer and then a bunch of big shots come in throughout the districts where they glad hand them and tell them the store looks great. Anyway during this I heard some people talking about schedule being in 2 weeks prior then it needed to be done. Ok I figured I had till Monday and I already told my boss I could work today Sat and could work Easter. Boy was I wrong. Schedule was do that Saturday
I was able to change my schedule as my boss is cool and I had told him already. However others not so lucky. I told people who were upset since they never told anyone about the schedule change then they technically had their request in on time if you are telling me the truth when you put it in. With this being a union job and all I told them just call out that day and if they ask why tell them you didn't give us notice of a schedule change and I put in my request at an allotted time needed.
We do have a work portal but the company makes it so fucking difficult to navigate and most employees barely check it. I check out only at the end of every month to make sure they didn't fuck up my pay and such. They really don't put announcements on there either. At the very least a note on the time clock of the changes should've been put up a few weeks prior as the guy doing the schedule knew about this vacation in advanced. It was technically for his wife's family who works at our store In a separate department as they were going to Vegas to celebrate her Nieces 21st B day. So its not like they can use the “oh we didn't know this would happen” excuse.
Was I right in my advice to co workers? I know I got what I wanted but I was pretty annoyed how my other coworkers got fucked as I've been in their positions before. At the very least they weren't using the bullshit excuse of you need to find your replacement then.
