My supervisor at my apprenticeship has repeatedly harassed me (age, racially, sexually etc.). He advises the company owner on payroll & is financially incentivized to fire employees . Today he sent me a nasty email blasting my competence. I suspect he is setting me up to be fired. How do I reply?

The 2nd boss D is a part-time contractor consultant. He has interrogated me sometimes daily on my age. He has also occasionally interrogated me on my marital status, number of kids, political beliefs and religion. D has also sexually harassed me. He has berated me and blasted me on a daily basis, and has accused me once of having a serious mental illness. He informed me and a coworker that he would be making recommendations to our boss on whom he should fire. However he later denied this when I asked him about this further. I am in a fully remote, online job/aprenticeship (that is run by the US Dept Of Labor) in the USA where I have two, possibly three bosses.

But I know and I remember very clearly what I did hear.

D is heavily financially incentivized to fire me. He advises the owner on payroll and compensation structures. He has seen employee personnel files. He knows that the company is financially struggling.

If D gets rid of me, then there are more funds for him to be upgraded to FT AND also get a contract extension and likely also get himself a pay raise.

I cannot leave because the apprenticeship agency forced all apprentices – under penalty of rescinding the apprenticeship offer – to sign a document saying that we would fork over $5000.00 to them if any of us had the temerity to leave.

So basically I have to shut up and be a sitting duck and wait for boss man to decide to give me the axe.

Today:

D sent me a nasty, furious email this afternoon blasting my competence and saying he doubts my ability to get things done.

Mysteriously, he accused me of failing to do things I have already gotten done – and that he would have known that I got those done! I don't understand what the hell he's talking about.

Yet, D is only holding me responsible and has ranted at me and said he doesn't believe I am capable of executing any tasks.

PLUS: D told me on Friday afternoon about some task I have to get done. And now on Sunday afternoon – the weekend -, he's already mad that I haven't made any 'plan' about how I would do it. I do not have to work weekend hours.

ALSO – a lot of these tasks require info that my other boss L would know but that info has not been forthcoming. L is super busy all the time and keeps telling me to turn to D for any answers I seek.

Similarly my other boss/coworker S has info on other tasks that I simply do not have.

He did not ask any questions of me or inform me about what exactly he needs me to get done. He just went off on an angry rant.

If this guy is setting me up to deny me my paycheck, what the heck can I do?

How should I respond to his crazed and irrational email?
