- Don't be loyal.
Ok, that's out of the way.
Don't pretend to be loyal. The only people who want 'loyalty' from their workers in 2022 are either idiots or monsters. You don't want to work for them.
In my interviews, I always promise to work hard and improve things at the company, but I make it really clear that if there is more money, or I'm unhappy, I'll just leave. I'll starve before putting up with more bullshit.
This may be easier to say in some professions or situations so use common sense…but it pays off. Since I started telling people this, I've had a couple fewer job offers as well as no bad managers, better raises, <40 hour weeks, and significantly more actual respect from the people I manage and interact with.
