So I (35 F) used to work as an assistant manager for a franchise as part of a well known pizza brand, let’s call it Crominos. My boss was 19 year old man-child. Very two faced. There was a number of problems working for him but the first red flags were that we had 3 managers with disabilities, myself included (I am autistic).
The first manager began to have her hours cut because “she is sitting down constantly”, the reason she does this is because her disability causes her significant pain if she stands up for long periods of time.
Once she was forced to find work at another store, our GM’s attention fell on the second manager who started getting his hours reduced. Same story as above.
Then it was my turn. Before I went back in to active management after being away for a while I was picking up driving shifts. Anyway I was working a shift when I had to take over management duties from the first manager mentioned above. All was fine until that manager had a text from our GM saying “Op should not be clocked in as a manager right now”. Later on I find that our GM had filed a time edit for the time I was clocked in as a manager (about 3 hours), I basically ended up working for free so he could save on labor.
When I did go back into active management all was fine, I was working on my training to progress but I felt that he was holding me back, not accepting pay raise requests and the like. At this point I can honestly say that I was losing my motivation rapidly. And then I had something significant happen in my personal life that I won’t go into but safe to say that I needed therapy for it. I asked my GM if I could take some time and take a step back and just do driving shifts until I work through them, “that’s fine OP”… yeah right… for the next few weeks I had extra manager duties and to top it off I still no pay raise.
Other lowlights include being left to run the store on my own despite having a medical condition that makes me faint often including when stressed, not being allowed to ask extra workers to come in to help (namely my wife who works there too) and being bitched at when the stats aren’t to target in really busy days
Safe to say I had enough, and I handed in my 2 weeks on the day he went for his vacation and I haven’t looked back. I have been out of there for 2 weeks and it is heavenly
There were a few other red flags too from the main Franchise. Basically we had a new franchise take over and they began to bring in all these arbitrary rules that didn’t affect productivity such as stricter uniform rules and a rule where from no on you are only allowed to book 2 days off per month maximum and only 10 days through the year. Did I mention these were unpaid days too?
Yeah that whole experience was bullshit and I would rather shit in my hands and clap before stepping foot back in that hellhole.
