My wife just got fired while on maternity leave (Canada)

Apparently the company is doing some restructuring and called today to inform her that her job will not be there for her when she's done her leave. I was under the impression that the company is legally required to hold your job for 18 months when you go on maternity leave. Is what they're doing legal? Her being terminated also means that we no longer have access to her benefits plan. Still reeling from this one and spiraling out thinking of all the ways this affects our plans for the future. Any help or info is greatly appreciated.
