My work experience this year.

I was an “HR Recruiter” for a produce distribution company in the PNW. My immediate coworkers were around my age and I liked them both a lot. I was performing well finding candidates and leading orientations within the first month. While the pay and benefits were shit I felt this would be a great stepping stone into a possibly lucrative career in recruiting. My manager was nice to me but she was a loud republican. I just kept quiet on this as I could ignore her bad takes on economics, no big deal. This was my first glance into how evil this company was. We would conduct company randoms and one of their truck drivers got a false positive on a company drug test.

The procedure if they dispute the result is the driver has to stop working immediately (without pay) and go to a testing center. When the results came back in several days later the worker asked to be compensated for his missed hours. I had one of the owners ( a rich asshole with the silver spoon still in his mouth) say that the workers missed pay “wasn't his problem”.

Finally on a meeting with my younger coworker who was my supervisor (not the loud Republican manager) I told her I was kinda bothered how loudly conservative people are in this company. She agreed with me and started telling me stories she put up with. She told me about how one of the operations managers was “flexing” his Trump mug at her that he proudly displays in his office.

Then she drops a bomb on me and tells me that a few months earlier a trans person applied and that a hiring manager didn't want to interview her because she was trans. She was able to force him to interview her but eventually declined her because he said “he wasn't going to throw her to the dogs.” Meaning if a trans person worked there they would be subjected to an insane amout of transphobia. So trans people can't work at this company.

I wasn't doing well financially but I wanted to quit on the spot. I went back to my desk and on my computer I see one of the managers has a “Lets go Brandon” profile picture for our phone system. I had enough and told my supervisor that I was going home for the day and we would talk Monday. After calling an LGBTQ+ hotline that weekend and explaining my issues they recommended that I stay on board till I can line up another job. I tried to listen to their advice but I didn't have the strength to recruit for a company I despised. I quit that Monday and reported them (nothing happened to them of course).

I just recently quit another conservative shithole I joined up with after that company. I just needed to vent this year has been hard and I'm now ruining my car for Instacart to make ends meet.
