I am a first year part time teacher at a fancy private school. I am moving to another city and I am required to serve a 3 month notice period. I informed my workplace about my move 3 months in advance and agreed to work till the end of the school year.
There is literally only 1week left, our students are already on their summer break and we are now just going into school for grading and report cards.
Last week I asked my workplace if I could do my grading from home for the next few days as I had to supervise the packing and I have a 1 hr long commute to work everyday which just cut into the time I could spend grading.
HR approved it and was very chill about it.
Last Saturday they had a school festival which I didn’t attend because a) they already gave me approval to wfh b) and I already had commitments on Saturday that I couldn’t work around.
I dropped them an email the morning of the event, letting them know I couldn’t make it and I get a call from HR saying if I don’t show up to the event, they would withdraw WFH approval. I was pretty taken aback by this and also pissed. But I just said if that’s what they want to do sure, I only have 4 more working days.
It’s not a big deal I guess since I am leaving but I just feel so upset at how petty they were about it. Made me lose a lot of respect for the head of the school who insisted I be told that if I didn’t show up they wouldn’t let me wfh.
