Hey everyone, my wife is currently finishing her last semester in college to get a degree in middle grades education. Currently she is doing student teaching. The school she is at is having a shortage on substitute teachers so they offered her a paid long-term sub position (normally student teaching is unpaid). She was told by teachers that the pay is $100 per day.
So today she was meeting with HR and they said to her, “since you don’t yet have a bachelors degree, the most we will pay you is $60 a day”
I was floored when she told me this! That is literally almost a 50% decrease in pay!! How can a school that is literally having such a SHORTAGE on substitute teachers, to the point that they will pay student teachers offer even less pay.
What are some suggestions on how to approach this situation? Ideas for how to negotiate higher pay? Or just a firm response saying no that’s hysterically low?
