My girlfriend works for a car rental place in Florida. We will call them “Davis”.
She graduated college and we were set on moving to Florida. She applied and got the job as “manager”.
Salary 43k and gets a free rental. The problem is that she is working 60-70-80 hrs a week and at times the rental is a pos. Now because she is administrative, there is no overtime.
I’ve read over stipulations regarding over time in Florida and in her case, yes she doesn’t qualify for overtime in theory as a manager on salary. However, that is based on her doing strictly office work. No manual labor.
More often than not, she is washing cars, delivering cars to airport, driving cars here, driving cars there. Counting cars out in the sun or rain. Putting license plates on. Doctoring things so they can rent said car etc. Working booth to rent cars, or working returns. All in all it isn’t sounding so administrative to me. I’d say maybe 25 to 40% administrative.
My question is, is this legal? Sure she gets the car and free gas, but I feel like she is getting fucked out of cash here. I feel like they are renting her a car at a handsome price basically.
