Need some work advice for a new job I started.

So I’ve been working the same job for years but recently moved and had to find a new one and would appreciate some advice. So I started this job about a month ago. The first day a coworker came up to me telling me that it was good timing because two people just quit. To me this was the first red flag. But I had to not think anything of it because I really needed money. Most of my life I’ve only had jobs where there were set schedule, for ex my last job it was always mondays and tuesdays off. The job I’m currently working is completely random. Random days, random hours, random positions. I already didn’t particularly like this, but my coworkers all said “that yeah it sucks but our boss always give you time off you request for.” So I figured whatever I need a job and…

I already didn’t particularly like this, but my coworkers all said “that yeah it sucks but our boss always give you time off you request for.” So I figured whatever I need a job and that’s not the worst thing in the world. So what has been happening recently Is that my boss keeps scheduling me 11-7 closing shifts. But due to the nature of my work we don’t always close at 7 sometimes 8-830. So ordinarily if we have to stay late he will schedule us 1230-830. He knows weeks in advance when we will have to close, but 3 times now he has known we will be closing at 830 but schedules me 11-7 forcing me to go into overtime. One of my coworkers apparently blew up on him and told him that if he knows we’re going to be staying late, then he should schedule us that way. What he’s been doing has been beyond infuriating me. So fast forward to a couple days ago I messaged my boss asking for a few days off so I can housesit for family and he denied the request. So the way I’m looking at it is, I have no set days or times, I’m being forced into overtime, and I can’t even get time off. Being that I’ve only worked here a little over a month, do you think I should stay? I know this is somewhat poorly explained because you would have to know and understand thejob for it to make more sense. But I don’t know if this is how normal jobs are or if my boss is taking things too far.

Edit: also wanted to add that the days I requested off are for over two weeks from now, so it’s not short notice. And I can still work all the week before and the following days. I essentially just needed my weekends back to back
