I work in technology sales. 46 yo grown ass man, have a family, house, children the whole bit. 2021 by all rights was my most successful year of my life and I really enjoy what I do. But…my Co is going through a restructuring that would have me reporting into a different VP that has a very long history of being a hot head, very demeaning to his direct reports and pretty much a dick to work for. Based off of prior jobs, I do not work well or respond to this type of sales management. If you talk down to me, try to bully me or don’t show equal levels of respect you will not motivate me, you’ll likely get the opposite reaction out of me.
I don’t necessarily want to leave my company but I want to get in front of this new relationship. I have meetings next week to formally meet with him and I’d like to address this potential conflict of personalities and management styles up front. How would you tackle something like this?
