So I’m a full time ASE Certified Automotive Technician at a research and development company. We develop/install aftermarket parts on cars and test how much better they function vs stock parts. It’s a super cool job other than the fact that I turned cars from a fun hobby/pastime into a full time job (I regret it a lot). So I’ve worked at this company for 5 years without incident. I do my job well, I don’t miss work, I barely use vacation time etc. Last month a new tech started in the junior tech position. Meaning he doesn’t have a ton of automotive experience. Still knows what he’s doing mostly just not to the level of me or our master tech. It’s essentially a starting position so we can train him how to do things and get better as a tech. They started him off making 4 dollars more an hr than I do, made him salary, (I’m the only hourly employee in my department) and moved my computer and all my shit to a junk table in the back of the shop and let him have my desk, he gets treated like a fucking king all the time, he gets all the good installs and jobs and I get bitch work like taking trash out and cleaning the floors. Like I get someone has to do those things but I didn’t go to school to be a technician just to pull janitor duty after busting my ass day in and day out for 5 years at this place. I bleed for this company, literally. Sometimes daily. And this is how I get rewarded? I don’t really know how to react anymore. It seems new hire employees are valued more than long time employees.
