I've been in the same position for 3 years. It's abusive, exploitative, and the CEO micromanages everything. My therapist has described her as a narcissist. I just got a new job today. HUGE UPGRADE. And I timed it exceptionally to take back some of my dignity.
Rewind 3.5 years. I was desperate for a job. I called a colleague who graduated with me and I knew was working for an interesting non-profit. She recruits me in and trains me as a volunteer for 6 months while I was finishing up my license. I eventually get hired and in my first day as an employee she quits effective immediately. I was floored, but I got a day 1 promotion bc of it, soooo.
Then it hit me…my boss was awful. I was about to quit too when my boss went on a 9 month leave of absence and I was essentially supposed to run the day-to-day of the org alone. Only like 8 weeks after I was officially hired. After she comes back from the leave…bam…Covid. And I'm working from home. Working for my boss was tolerable, but extremely stressful, just under the surface.
Now, 2 years forward and in-person work is happening again. So I applied to 135 jobs over the last 3 months. Fucking finally got one today that starts July 1 and I'll be going on medical leave for the entire month of June! Oops.
