I have been at my current company for 10 years, it has been bought twice and since those buyouts the company is a shitty place to work. I have been looking at an exit plan for years, interviews, thinking about selling all of my stuff and living in a sprinter (partially kidding), but, I have found a new opportunity.
Company I am at is very small, 50 people, I am a VP there. New company approached me back in Feb of this year, we’ve been talking ever since, in March there was a lot of “yes, lets do this” and lets do this followed by “gonna take us about 4-8 weeks to sort out details”…long story short, this new company is much larger than my current one, 5000 employees and just way more red tape and bullshit.
Anyway, long story short, it’s looking like my formal offer and employment contract will come next week, but, I leave for personal time off at the end of next week and I believe new company will NEED me starting in 2-3 weeks as there are some events I’d need to be at as they start this new division of the company that I would lead.
I guess what I am wondering, is I know the “2 weeks” notice thing, is a courtesy, not mandatory, but its likely I may quit the day before my vacation or hell, even during? Which is F-ed and not what I wanted to do, but wondering what if any sort of repercussions?
