Just thought I’d share my story on here, but keep it short and sweet!
Old Job- About a year and a half ago, I graduated High School and decided to go into the trades. Started with a construction company under a 4 year apprentice program, studying to be a plumber. That meant 40-50 hour weeks, 7am every morning (some job sites were almost an hour away from me, I typically left for work at 6) Monday through Friday, sometimes Saturday, doing both all the work that the skilled workers didn’t want to do, and helping out with big projects. All this for $12 an hour. I did this every day, sticking with it, until about 8 months in, I woke up with terrible back pain, only to find out I had a slipped disc. The company offered nothing to help me get back on my feet, and actually fired me in the middle of my medical journey since I had taken more than 8 weeks to recover.
New Job- I now work as a sales rep for a company, making $20 an hour, and I get a cash bonus for every individual sale I make. I get to choose my own hours, as long as I’m at the office for a minimum of 20 hours a week. Some weeks I even choose to work 40+ just to bring home a huge paycheck. I’ve been able to pay rent and bills so much easier now, plus keep up with my own interests and hobbies, now that I have time and money to put into them! It’s probably been one of the most welcome changes of my life
