My aunt passed away only a few weeks ago unexpectedly. Her daughters were driving as fast as they could to get to her to say goodbye and unfortunately had to say goodbye over the phone. Not even 15 minutes later my cousin’s (whose mom just passed away) boss called to let her know that she doesn’t get bereavement pay for parents but she has plenty of PTO and would put her down for the next day off.
