I started a new job recently and learned that they don't provide a lunch break. HR told me that whatever time I take for lunch during the day needs to be made up at the end of the day.
I've never experienced this before and was surprised to find out that New Jersey law states that employees are not entitled to a lunch break. We all work from 9 to 5, not taking a break because we don't want to stay late. Everyone eats at their desk so nobody socializes.
I realize that this isn't nearly as toxic as other work environments explained on this sub, but I felt the need to vent and this seems like the best place. Maybe I'm just spoiled because my last employer gave us an hour break during our 9 to 5 schedule, which really helped me recharge. I should probably count my blessings though.
