I went too the head union guy to argue my case that I was doing another person’s job position that is higher pay ($23 a hour) than mines ( I’m making $21 a hour).It’s not a big pay difference but I’m being tossed around helping other peoples jobs when a helper gets paid $25 a hour. The head union guy goes too the plant manager and tells him my case and the plant manager tells the head union guy that since I don’t have training for that machine I won’t be getting paid ($23-25) a hour. Head union guy tells me I can’t do anything about it. We’re locked in a 4 year contract that the last head union guy signed and retired with a pension the following year getting only 60 cents raise a year while the company is getting new contracts from Amazon/target/wal mart. Vacation used to take 2 years to get 2 weeks paid vacation and now it’s once you been direct hire you get 2 weeks because so many come and go on the job because they realized vacation sucked. 8 years to get 3 weeks and 15 years to get 1 month. So what I’m trying to say is not all unions are good and some head union guys are useless because they become a company man and dont fight for you.
