Not even the employees who work the suicide line get support from management

I thought maybe it's time to share some spicy memories of when I worked on the suicide line. I cannot disclose a lot so please forgive that aspect due to privacy. Let me tell you that we do not get paid enough. Part-time day staff got 10/hour, full time day got 12/hour, and all night shift was full time at 15/hour. So yeah, the people who get to hear the most fucked up things get paid shit. But on to WHY I quit. We had out building broken into multiple times in my last weeks there. Granted, I do think they were just homeless people trying to get out of the cold but being alone in an office building not knowing who is and isn't around the corner is terrifying. I had previously owned a service dog who did room sweeps for me and he had passed away before this…

But on to WHY I quit. We had out building broken into multiple times in my last weeks there. Granted, I do think they were just homeless people trying to get out of the cold but being alone in an office building not knowing who is and isn't around the corner is terrifying.

I had previously owned a service dog who did room sweeps for me and he had passed away before this job. After the first break in, I decided it was time to look for another. Not just for safety but mentally I was a bit wrecked from the job. I contacted a breeder and we went from there.

I informed my boss that I would be having a service dog probably around late July, which is when she knew I was moving away. She was adamant that I couldn't have a service dog in the building. I got it in writing and everything and you know what? She was right! Since we were so severely understaffed at under 15 employees, they didn't have to comply to my service dog request… that would've happened 5 months later. I asked very nicely twice and had meetings with her about how important this is. She stuck to her guns and I handed in my 2 weeks notice later that day. Called off the last 2 days due to more break ins. They honestly could not figure out why I was leaving lol
