So recently I applied for a position at a casino. I went to the interview and met with the hiring manager and it goes well. Nice guy. They ask me to come back the next day to do an audition (the position is more-or-less a glorified birthday singer, you play dumb games and stuff with the guests etc) and I do and that also goes well, he then starts to make a big deal about how they don’t just hire anyone and how lucky I should feel and ask if I want the job. So I say yeah, because obviously that’s why I’m there, and then I ask if the pay is negotiable. It isn’t. Which, ok, that’s fine, they told me the pay upfront so I get it. Its not terrible but not great money either. So they ask me to come back again the next day to fill out paperwork and take the drug test, and I do. I’m then told I need to fill out an application with the gaming board but my start day would be in a few weeks pending that”
Now here’s where it gets interesting.
First, I completely support the idea of a gaming board and understand their precautions with licensing someone. That being said, 36 page application? For real?
Why do they need to know what types of cars I’ve owned, who my roommates are and what they drive, where my mom lives, if I have any tattoos or scars, if I have children (it specifically says “include adult children”, parents/step parents & siblings names, if I’ve ever owned a business, every address I’ve had in the last 10 years, 5 people for “character references”, my financial history, any and all civil litigation history, “all sources of income for entire household”, a credit card check,
It goes on and on like that. Honestly I stopped at credit card because the page is locked so if you don’t consent you can’t continue the application. I can’t even imagine what they want to know on the next 10 pages.. where I lost my virginity?
Between that, and the fact that the job is basically a glorified Applebee’s happy birthday singer, I decided it wasn’t for me. And so I ghosted them. They kept calling asking what’s the hold up and I’m just not interested enough to even explain why I won’t even consider it.
So, aita for ghosting a job offer, leaving them thinking they have a new-hire and no longer have to interview people?
