Observing Juneteenth, then not?

I work for a small family law firm. We observe federal holidays. We have a diverse office staff but the owner and his brothers who are attorneys are white. Yesterday one of the attorneys said we observe federal holidays so enjoy the three day weekend for celebrating Juneteenth! The staff is new so we are experiencing the first round of holidays at this firm. My Black coworker smiled and said she had wondered what we were going to do for Juneteenth. Yesterday one of the attorneys said we observe federal holidays so enjoy the three day weekend for celebrating Juneteenth! The staff is new so we are experiencing the first round of holidays at this firm. My Black coworker smiled and said she had wondered what we were going to do for Juneteenth. I left feeling really good about the people I work for.

Later, I got a text from the office manager saying that one of the other attorneys, the owner, said we are working Monday. So that three day weekend observance was revoked. I am feeling some type of way about this.

I think it was in poor taste to revoke the observance. I am disappointed in them and I respect my new boss a hell of a lot less at this moment.

I have not spoken to my coworker or gauged how she feels. She actually knows the owner of the firm quite well for many years. I thought I’d put this out there to see what y’all thought about it.

TLDR: We were told we celebrate Juneteenth and to enjoy the 3 day weekend, then we were told by the owner we do not (no reason stated yet) and to come to work Monday.
