I work for a company that claims to be super progressive and gives us lots of great perks. Most of them are meaningless and most employees would rather just get paid more but I digress.
Two weekends ago I had my wedding we did everything possible to defend against COVID. Everyone was vaxxed and boosted everyone took a test before coming to the events. Still COVID broke out and by Tuesday ppl started testing positive. My wife and I tested negative on Monday night, but once we got to Jamaica early Tuesday we felt worse than just a hangover and tested positive. We had a 4 day nightmare in paradise, but eventually tested negative and got to enjoy a few days.
When I discussed with my supervisor while I was in quarantine and he approved that I could use sick days for when I was sick not vacation days. I got back today and was informed that I can use sick days and recover some vacation days, but the sick days counted toward my regular sick days which we only have ten of. I had a cold earlier this year and had to take one mental health day with all this I now have 3 sick days for the rest of the year.
Is this normal or am I crazy for thinking that a company that will give you 3 PTO days a year for community service will force me to take regular sick days??? I don’t even know what to respond what if I get unlucky and catch it again despite me taking all precautions mask, sanitation etc. my job requires me to be in the field every single day.
Idk if I should make a stink out of this, but I am pretty pissed off. What do you think? Has anyone else has this experience since the federal sick leave program ran out of money? (USA for reference)
