I started as a Social Worker for a local facility fresh out of college. I was lucky enough for them to give me a shot without any experience. I asked for a certain amount (which was fair) and was told that due to my inexperience that they’d start me at a lower wage, but bump me to my requested salary after 6 months. 6 months later I was just told “times are tough for us right now. I have to clear it with corporate and make sure it’s ok to do this.” Are you kidding me? This was contingent on being hired. You don’t think times are tough for me as well? I lived paycheck to paycheck for six months on a promise that is going to be broken? I did not put myself through school on a fixed income for multiple years to be disrespected like this. If I don’t get this raise, they can get someone else for the job.
