I used to work at a fairly small movie-theater-restaurant (4 locations in4 states), and I was a food runner, meaning I brought food to customers and cleaned theaters.
Our theater turnaround was too slow, so corporate came out to find the problem. One of the things they did at the mandatory meeting was play the song “Happy” over and over until everyone would sing and “clap along”. They also showed a video of another location cleaning a theater and asked why we were slower. We told them that we’ve never had the managers help like in the video and if we had that many runners in one theater then there wouldn’t be any left to bring food to the other theaters. They fixed these issues for a couple of days, and then went back home. It lasted two days until we were back to normal.
For thanksgiving and Christmas, they talked about how many people liked to work those days because they can only stand their families for half the day. They still guilted me into working thanksgiving.
One time I was working really hard, and pretty proud of how much food I had taken out. As I was bringing another full tray to theater 1, the GM walked beside me and talked about how he could tell I was working hard. He then told me to pick up the pace and accused me of playing video games all night.
Management sucks.
