I am a mental health nurse, and have worked in NHS and care homes etc. However this story relates to a care home I worked in approx 10 years ago. My partner was 8 months pregnant with our first kid, was bumpy at times as she had reduced movements alot. Anyway she was 8 months and 3 weeks, and had reduced movements again. Took her to hospital and gyno said that she was to be induced in 1 week from the date we seen him unless a natural birth occured. I explained to my employer at care home (giving one weeks notice aswell) that my partner was having reduced movements and I would require to be off on said date as they would be inducing the labour (I was scheduled to work on that date) I was told that if I never showed up to my work I would be marked down as an unauthorised absence and then i was given an option to pay for an agency nurse out of my own pocket to cover my shift when my kid was being born ! I also had 6 weeks holiday to take and holiday request was refused, even 1 day ! Also on the work rota my manager had a massive red U marked on my shift a week before it actually happened.
Morale of the story your life and family doesn't mean shit to who you work for, fuck you employers, your family, partners and children are the lowest of there priorities, profit matters!!
I took my two weeks paternity leave, found a new.job and handed my notice to her on return, she was actually shocked when I gave it to her !
P.s. worked for this pos bitch for 4 years, never late covered shifts, never a sick day and 100s of unpaid hours… fuck them.
Do the bare minimum to scrape by and don't give them a second afterthought…
