On call laws are BS even in Canada

My workplace runs 24/7 with 4 rotating crews. You’re “on call” multiple times a month, even for night shifts, and you will be marked as an unexcused absence if you don’t come in. But what’s ridiculous – in the instance of nights- is they call at 7pm (even if they knew at 11am), and expect you to be there for shift start (8pm). They literally expect you to have slept during the day JUST IN CASE you get called. And it’s perfectly legal to not even pay you for it. F capitalism : )
