Opinions wanted

I work for an auto parts store, which is hard been female bc some people do not want to deal with a woman 🤯 when it comes to there cars. I've been there a year. We can not keep help we're supposed to have 13 people at the location I'm at, we have 6. We got a new GM in October & he told me he would promote me to manager after her was settled in. Well in December he hired a guy & January 31st during an employee meeting he told us all he has decided to promote the guy he hired in December. He never talked it over with his assistant GM or other managers, which pssed them off. I was pssed (I have 8yrs experience as a GM of a restaurant more experience in management than the new guy). Well in December he hired a guy & January 31st during an employee meeting he told us all he has decided to promote the guy he hired in December. He never talked it over with his assistant GM or other managers, which pssed them off. I was pssed (I have 8yrs experience as a GM of a restaurant more experience in management than the new guy). Since I have started working for this company I had to train myself to use there equipment, If they need someone to cover a shift I never say no, if they need me to stay over when it's time to clock out I always do if it's an hour or five, I do anything I can to help bc I feel bad leaving the managers in a hole when there shift starts. Especially during the last week we have had a young lady come in work 2 days & hasn't been back, a manager quit, & the new guy who was promoted over me called in 15min B4 his shift started 2 days ago & has been a no call no show for 2 days. He will not answer phone calls or text, so I'm assuming he quit.
I am curious to know if you think he was promoted over me BC I'm a woman or the guy was just that good at his job. Which the other managers said he was not & refused to help train him. Also is there any way you could take your boss at his word after he gave you his word on something then done something totally different and never addressed the reason why with me. Could you trust him?
