I work at a large organization in a department responsible for regulating our Information Technology department (making sure they don’t spend to much of our budget, making sure our devices are in compliance). The IT guys don’t like what we do because we put limitations on them, but they are basically allowed to operate with impunity because they have access to our administrative passwords and accounts.
Their idea of a good time is to mess with our mouse cursors or edit the code of our most frequently used department websites and tools so they act up or don’t work correctly. They even use our companies productivity software to monitor our conversations while we work from home and then they post memes about it all around our offices when they aren’t working remotely. Our team knows it is happening and have been reasonable with them about our expectations but this is still going on (almost two years now, as my department was only recently founded and enforced by our leadership team).
What can I do about this? Going to HR is usually a wash because they wouldn’t have any way of proving what is happening, and our direct managers just tell us to be polite and work with them despite their superior douchebag attitudes. I really like this job but a lot of what they do wastes a lot of our time and prevents us from succeeding. Thanks for reading.
