Help please…

Hello I'm a restaurant server. My boss has been cutting out hours and not granting us (me and my coworkers) double shifts, due to the fact that he doesn't want anyone taking breaks, on top of the fact the our management routinely makes us (the servers) pay for any walk out bills. Now I'm at my breaking point, but I'm a single dad who's just barely hanging on, my question is who do I go too to get these criminals fired, do I go to the police or HR. I'm just a 24 year old who's scared of losing his children because he's about to lose his job.

Middle- and lower-class treat homeless people the same way billionaires treat middle- and lower-class people.

I’m currently homeless. But I act like I’m not. I get haircuts, wear my nicer clothes, and try my best to act like I have places to be. When I go places like college campuses, sometimes workers will ask if I’m a student. I ask why they ask, and they say “Just making sure you’re not homeless. But you don’t look homeless, so never mind.” That nothing bad has happened to the spaces I’ve occupied proves there’s nothing wrong with homeless people occupying spaces. There’s just a lot of stigma and manufactures worry.

Quit my job yesterday, boss won’t stop calling me

I've told them my reason for leaving (personal reasons which I don't care to expand more on), and have told them that I'm happy to answer any questions and talk about the situation over text or email. However my boss keeps calling me (I happened to miss her call this morning because my phone was in the other room) and leaving me messages to call her back. Am I being unreasonable? I feel like if there's anything she wants to say or ask, she can do so with a paper trail. At this point I'm ready to tell her everything I was feeling – my thoughts on the company culture, that I wasn't enjoying the work, the fact that I'm leaving to focus on my mental health which has been rapidly spiraling just to get her to stop

A quote from Dune: Messiah

The convoluted wording of legalisms grew up around the necessity to hide from ourselves the violence we intend toward each other. Between depriving a man of one hour from his life and depriving him of his life there exists only a difference of degree. You have done violence to him, consumed his energy. Elaborate euphemisms may conceal your intent to kill, but behind any use of power over another the ultimate assumption remains: “I feed on your energy.” -Addenda to Orders in Council The Emperor Paul Muad'dib

“WFH is over” articles reinforce the need for work environment changes

Pay attention to the wording. They want to force people into submission by going as far as threatening to cut pay and benefits. WE'RE NOT YOUR CHILDREN AND WE ARE NOT ROBOTS STOP TRYING TO CONTROL OUR LIVES If you are in the position to do so, politely reject jobs that can and have obviously been successfully done remotely and make your demands (politely) clear. (Ex. Currently on the market only for remote positions) Making your work conditions better and joining together with others doing the same helps every worker.

Just exploded the stress ball I got as a prize at work for doing well

As I clean green goop off my desk, I thought you all would appreciate the irony. Guess I’m too stressed for my free toy I received in lieu of an appropriate wage!

Crazy concept: Jobs that hire you should have you work the position you applied for.

I know, this is such an insane request I can’t even fathom typing it out. But seriously, why the fuck do jobs hire you for one thing, then immediately turn around and throw you on shit you didn’t apply for. My personal experience: I just got a job at Best Buy for a steady job and cash while I go back to college. I applied for a Sales Advisor position (someone who’s on the floor helping people with questions and recommending products based of their needs.) and the first week of actual training was great. After my first initial week of floor training, I’ve been on Front End (cash register and customer support) for the last week, and upcoming 2 weeks, with only 3 days in my actual position I was hired for. I’m a team player, I don’t mind learning this stuff in case I need to cover someone…

Almost forgot who I should be angry with.

I’ve been working as a salesman/technician for 5 years, and for the last 3 I’ve been introduced to new hires and even some customers as the manager, but I’ve always been strung along “just wait a little longer as we restructure the other stores” when it comes to the official title and pay. We have a new hire that I just found out is making the same $15/hour that I do and is being offered to run our online sales- my main source of commission while foot traffic is so low thanks to the effects of COVID. I have to admit that I got pissed off and was pretty rude to the guy for a day or two, but my wife helped remind me that in this equation some other average Joe trying to make a living is not the bad guy. The real at fault party is the ownership…
