Might get fired bc I talk to my co-workers every now and again

So I WFH for an ins company. Crazy metrics, micromanaged like hell, etc. it’s a call center so sometimes while I am doing my notes from the the call I was on, I will chat with my co-workers on a call. Since we don’t work in an office, it’s the only human interaction I get when people aren’t yelling at me over shit I can’t control. I’m a top performer, exceed what the metrics are for the job , etc. Was pulled into a meeting today over it and now it’s up to HR what happens. I just wanted to talk to my friends here and there and now I might get fired over it.

Manager is abusive and retaliates by cutting hours

Been working for a convenience store for about a year and a half, super easy job but the store manager is verbally abusive and cuts hours as a “punishment”. Basically she yells and screams (I mean SCREAMS, like a pissed off drunk) at all of us if shes having a bad day or if someone does something to make her day the slightest bit harder. There's been several times (including recently) where id stand up to her and ask her to stop treating us the way she does – and on the very next schedule my hours get cut drastically. I know i should just find a new job, but i actually like this one (aside from said manager) Its close to home, fairly easy and (for a while at least) i get full time hours. But it's like walking on eggshells around this person, she targets me a lot…

Recruiters are just fishing for data

Had a potential employer interview me this morning for a job that doesnt exist “yet”. An hours worth of invasive industry standard questions that have nothing to do with the actual role. The recruiter then asks salary expectations. I ask what is the budget for the role?. Sorry we cant disclose that at this time because it hasnt been established yet so how much do you need? Call me back when you figure out how much you want to pay someone for the roll because im not being paid for this research study. If you want market research do a study, dont create fake job listings just to data mine. The company was McKibbon Hospitality

Subtracting bathroom breaks from regular breaks

Ive been working from home for an insurance company for a year and during re-training I was told that if we use the bathroom throughout the day we have to subtract it from our two, fifteen minutes breaks. the time tracker we use (InContact/MAX) has an option specifically for bathrooms and I usually have to use the facilities in the morning. My question is, is that even allowed? Ive worked for other insurance companies, both in office and from home and they never had a rule like that. The only thing thats changed is the current company im with has a different client. Im not trying to abuse the bathroom system or anything but if you gotta go you gotta go and I dont want to have to find another job over something as dumb as bathroom breaks; any advice?

Researchers Uncover New Pathway for Age-Promoting ‘Zombie Cells’

I can imagine it now. “Only billionaires are allowed to die. Your skills are too useful to society for you to stop working now. Take your pills. Retirement can wait another ten years.”

Theoretically, how would one go about starting a union in NC in the beverage production industry? Is it even possible?

What would that look like, what kind of resources, capital, participation, etc. would be required? I know next to nothing about unions other than that their absence is killing us. As of data from a few years ago, I live in the second-to-last state in terms of union participation. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that a union in the food & beverage industry will ever materialize in this state/region, but might as well arm myself with information… 🤷‍️

My boss wants me to take on more work from my counterpart because she got a second job.

My boss feels I should be helping out this coworker more by doing some of her work because she works a second job. This job is purely for over employment reasons so she can travel. Her travel adventures are something she brags about often at work (Good for her but has nothing to do with me). My husband and I have to work opposite schedules because we can't afford day care rates. What is the best way to address this with both my boss and my coworker. I am not doing extra work so she can afford more vacations and I'm honestly beyond disgusted that my boss even suggested I should have pitty/be supportive of her second job.

Wendy’s manager yelled at my friend today at work

This is my friends story. “I just started this job, today's my third day and I'm on the grill. She yelled at me because I didn't put the biscuits in the warmer. I didn't hear her tell me to though. She was yelling at me about it and I tried to explain to her that she should have confirmed with me that I did it because I didn't hear her, but she kept cutting me off whenever I tried to explain it to her. She basically started saying how she's the manager and that if I don't stop trying to explain it to her then she's gonna fire me. I almost cried lol. I'm a recovering drug addict that's new in recovery and I'm staying in a sober living house. I haven't worked in awhile cause of my mental health but I got this job because I no longer have…

How can I make myself care about work?

I stayed at my first job in high school for more than two years. I am nearly 20 years old now and I began to feel disillusioned with work shortly after high school. I realized that working my entire life just to retire when I’m too old to do what I want is a waste of the gift of life. Since then, whenever a job becomes less than enjoyable, I give up. I stop trying, I show up late, or sometimes not at all. At my current job, I liked the position I started at. The work was dynamic, I had friends, and I was able to work with my hands. A few weeks ago my boss moved me to a different position which is incredibly mundane and repetitive, and again I’ve given up. I know it’s childish because I know that in life you have to do things you…

Is everything supposed to be this difficult

My work are finding more faults with me and now are putting me on a performance plan potentially, right after I’ve asked t hem for accommodations for neurodiversity. I feel so exhausted and stupid for running myself into the ground for this job only for them to turn round and do this. Every job I’ve been in has been terrible and I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m so tired. Maybe I shouldn’t exist because for whatever reason my brain can’t mimic and do what they want because it’s never good enough.
