Hi all, a short story for you that happened to me a little while ago. So the boss and i ran a branch of the company was a real good boss, just the two of us. We where turning over more than every other state, 21 Million yearly turn over, for just us two, the Boss (Lets call him Frank) who delt with the customers and sales and me (Peter) who would go out install all this custom gear and make everything work. Frank would keep the customers happy with good prices and service, and i Peter would keep them happy by showing up and fixing everything or installing no matter how hard or far away. The owner of the company was really nice, Gave me a credit card and didn't care what i put on it, my boss Frank would even put strip clubs on it. If i needed…
Professional Phrasing request
In my entire career I have never been this upset when it comes to work. I've never felt so stupid or inadequate. My boss has been horrendous and just keeps at it. Our team is small so there aren't other people I can ask if I'm taking shit wrong or if it really is as bad as it feels. Meetings where boss expects us to contribute, when I do, it honestly feels like I'm being backhanded through the screen for any thought or idea that is “wrong” or “unintelligent”. I wait for a pause and I'm mostly asking questions about something they said because I want to be able to understand and follow the thought process. We have another one of these types of meetings soon and if I just choose to not contribute they will ask about it. How do I phrase “Anytime I contribute you just hammer into…
Boss ignoring emails and texts
I called out sick one day last week and asked my boss (who is in charge of pay roll to add my sick time for the shift that was missed. I emailed her twice and also texted her and she has not responded.
I’m 26F and I work as a warehouse assistant. We have a new warehouse guy (I usually say warehouse person to be gender neutral, but in this case it’s imperative that you know he’s a man) and he started a few weeks ago. I am in no way, shape, or form his manager nor am I supposed to be training him. However, I’ve been with the company for a while and know the ins and outs of the warehouse. Occasionally, I will give him pointers about things he might be confused about. Well, today we had a customer pick some material up and this particular order was going to go back to the manufacturer, but the customer wanted to add it to their order so we let them pick it up. This material was in a section marked “returns”, so to avoid confusion, I went out there myself to help…
Using a sick day for a wedding
I started a new job in the beginning of the year and had a trip already planned. My company allowed me to take this 10 day trip, but I used up all of my vacation time. I just found out that a family member is getting married out of state. The wedding is on a Sunday night so I won’t be able to fly back until Monday. Even if I fly back first thing Monday morning, I will still miss the entire work day. I really want to go to this wedding to support my family member, but don’t have the vacation time. However, I do have paid sick time that I could use. My company says that sick time can be used for appointments, an existing condition including a physical or mental illness, injury, or health condition. It also allows an employee to care for a family member with…
The cycle continues.
I received a 5k pay raise today at work and was absolutely thrilled until not 3 hours later I received the lease renewal for my apartment with a “market standard” 33% increase in rent ($800). Imdedinside.
I was fired yesterday.
I have had a sordid work history with over ten years of experience. I was brought on as a staff. About a month in, I was pulled aside for a performance review. I thought it was odd but was like, “ok, I gotta step it up.” I was working and thought I was doing well. When I went for a review with the manager, it ended up being with two partners. They fired me because I didn’t meet their unspoken expectations within a timeframe I was unaware of. I feel like I’ve been kicked in the gut. To be told that I’m good but just not good enough when I wasn’t even aware of the time constraints or expectations from the beginning fucking sucks. My confidence has been completely shot and I feel like a loser. I’m so tired. My career has been one fucking nightmare after another. When do…
I, for most of my 20s have been in a job where I felt pressured to work after my working hours as I had so much work that didn't fit within my normal 40 hours and not getting such work down would leave me getting reprimanded. I had to turn something in to my boss but her door was closed and I texted her saying I left it in her mailbox. She told me that she just left her door closed as she was on a phone call. She texted this to me after my working hours saying she is available now. Usually, I'll stay as late as need be outside of my working hours to get something done, but this is the first work environment where I felt comfortable to flat out say to her it's 20 minutes past my working hours we can discuss this tomorrow. And she…
I was hired to troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment (the specifics are NDA'd so I will have to keep it very general). I have extensive experience the field, I retired from the military as a radar technician and worked as a crew chief for a radar system as a civilian right after I got out. My wife wanted to move back to her home state so I found this job and we moved. I don't have specific experience with this equipment but I was promised that I would receive OJT type training to learn about the equipment. After all, troubleshooting and repairing electronic circuits would be the same for any type of system, so I have no doubt that I would be good at it, this type of thing would be my hobby if I didn't do it for a living. I work at a remote location and my supervisor…
