I work in a hospital setting (not clinical) and hate my job due to micromanagement. I'm resigning in a few months and have a good amount of sick days. I don't want them to go to waste and this hospital will not reimburse me if I resign. So, can I just call in and be sick for like a week? Should I ask for bevereament because I know someone who passed and need like 5 days off? Tbh, my ethnicity is very small and there's always someone passing away so I can easily get a document if needed. I just don't want to go to work because of how sick I am of this place.
I work in education and there is a lot of emailing and various appointments for me and my colleagues to do. However, we also have a passive-aggressive manager who will manipulate things, even though she knows it is going to piss people off. For example, she has given me late afternoon appointments, even though she knows I prefer the morning ones. Also, like all shit managers, she will seletively reply to emails or ignore them and reply several hours later. I don't know the best way to “play” her i.e. if I start ignoring her emails she'll get arsey; likewise if I ask for morning appointments (which I have done) she'll come back with some bullshit about how people need to be available at different times etc.
Not Paid Last Paycheck
I am looking for some advice on getting my last paycheck. It’s been around 30 days since I no call no showed (not sure if this counts as termination or quitting) and have yet to receive my final check yet in the state I live in a maximum of 15 days is allowed to pass before receiving the final check. They were hacked months ago and have been using this as an excuse. They seem to be trying to stall out paying me as long as they can. They owe me 100 hours of regular pay and 40 hours of overtime pay. I don’t think I am in a union and when I called the labor department for wage concerns I was just put on hold for an hour before hanging up. Looking on some advice on getting this final paycheck and moving on with my life.
Boss ‘hires’ fiancée as my replacement
Fyi, I'm in 🇬🇧 and my employer is a big name in the chosen industry. So, I handed in my 4 week notice 3 weeks ago now as I'm done with having nothing to show for working my arse off for 5 years in this place and having to lie to staff. I'm a Supervisor so I'm told to say things, look for faults, performance manage and manage poor performers out the door(instead of giving them the chance to improve). Oh and they've not paid my pension contributions in 8 months. An advertisement goes out for my replacement. The boss gives his fiancée an interview which will be done by a panel. But she's still on probation from a previous promotion. She goes for the interview and it's just her and the boss and he gives her the job there and then. How do I know this? She told me…
I know 90% of hospitality is standing all day. But this is the first company I’ve worked for that won’t allow employees to sit down, and only provide a 30min break. Initially my supervisor told me “we don’t take breaks”. Then my assistant manager said only 30 minutes, but heavily implied it would be an inconvenience because were so short staffed. Finally, after a week long of being guilted into not taking my break I began using the bar chair behind our counter when we had no one in the lobby. When my GM saw me sitting, she promptly came over and said only people with a doctors note could sit. It took everything in me to not walk out. By the end of the week I could barely walk, I broke down crying after my shift. I know I’ve been WFH for a couple years but I’ve never experienced…
Wow! I’m so fucking glad I escaped!
Warning, this is pretty unorganized. Pretty much a vent post about the (literal) shitty working and living conditions at my previous job before I got a much better job elsewhere. Recently quit a job I had in central AK in a tourist town. I got fired from my previous job up there for “standing around too much” (but that's another story), and desperately needed to find a job with housing, because there is no housing up there. Like, at all. You can sleep in the woods or one of the many, very expensive hotels but… That's it. So I got a job with a company that owned 3 different businesses. I showed up at Place #1 and said I'm not leaving without a job. Cause it was either that, or sleeping in the woods where there are moose and bears and what not. Sweet, I get a job and I'm…
I work as a line cook. I was hired to work mornings on the weekends and dinner shifts during the week. I got my schedule this last Friday and saw that my 40 hour work week got cut down to 15 hours because a new guy was hired and they are giving him my old hours. I recently got married so my wife and I don’t have a lot of money to begin with, so for the chef to just come out and do this to me without telling me beforehand was honestly a slap in the face. I have already given my two weeks notice and have gotten another job so hopefully this new place will honor and respect me as an individual with responsibilities and priorities instead of just somebody who cooks for them.
