How do you run an effective union? What tactics are successful? What traps do unions fall for? What about student unions at colleges, are those unions run differently for successful results or do they basically follow the same principles? What are common union busting tactics? How can we effectively lead a union?
I hope everyone had a good easter weekend. mine not so much. I have two separate jobs working for the education system. my first is a crossgaurd job and my secound is a cafiteria worker. they pay just enough that i can get by. i dont recive any benifits so if i end up not working one day, i dont get payed. covid has been rough as i been trying to find odd jobs to work to make up for loss of income. a week begore easter weekend my coworker for my crossguard job looked sick. she claimed it was allergies due to spring and i was trusting of her. come wensday i almost fainted at the cafiteria from exhuastion which isnt normal even for my spring flue like symptoms. i have bad environmental allergies that go into overdrive during summer so i wear alot of masks and take alot…
So I work for a large company who basically handles HR work for bigger companies (Think McDonalds, Verizon, JPMC, Lockheed Martin, etc.) so their HR load is lighter. It's remote. I've worked here for nearly a decade and really enjoyed the position. Right before the pandemic, we introduced a LiveChat feature. But due to the sensitive nature of some clients information we couldn't just have a contact center handle this and our positions- advertised with no schedule and complete flexibility- was suddenly changed to a 9 to 5. Now most of us working here are shy, reclusive individuals who sought out this work to not speak to others or be limited to the 9-5 schedule. The pandemic made for more remote positions, so much of our competent workforce have left. I feel this new contract they want us to sign is because our jobs are essentially entirely different. Do I…
Favouritism and terrible management.
To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm looking for advice or just ranting, but I really need to get this off my chest. I work for a American company that has it's call centers in Mexico, Colombia and Jamaica among other places. So basically, the kind of company that uses labour from “third world” countries so they can pay peanuts. I initially started working for the largest department, but then out of the blue, got transferred to a different, smaller department, they basically said they were understaffed there and need more help. They fed me a bunch of bullshit, saying that the work was easier and even though the productivity bonuses were smaller, they were easier to get, that was all a lie. They will chip away at the already small amount if your calls are too short, if they are too long, if your break was a few…
why your boss shouldn't give you a raise based on inflation The majority of his audience is conservative based on what I've seen, but at least there is alot of sense in the comments under this video

Travel expenses [UK]
So recently my employer of 6 years made relocate to a new building and part of the “agreement” was they would pay my extra travel expenses. The total was agreed with my manager and I had to read and sign a statement and everything looked fine so I went and bought a monthly train ticket. Pay day has come and the amount is a lot less than what was originally agreed so I made some phone calls to HR/Payroll, they advised I need to speak to the regional manager. He has basically put it down to being pro rata of my moving date as that was the 12th of the month and was told that was the end of it. Nowhere on any of the policies for the travel expenses that I had to read and sign for does it mention about being moved mid month would have this effect,…
