AdventHealth scams RNs out of overtime.

Wife is an RN working for AdventHealth. Her time on and off work is documented automatically by a clock in/out system. Her dept regularly asks her and her colleagues to work overtime. That's fine, she is willing. But even though they can keep track of her regular hours, as soon as she goes overtime, they have a hard time paying her for it; unless she takes extra steps to manually report her overtime hours, which they have made an inconvenient, non-user-friendly process, she does not get paid for her overtime. When anyone mentions it, they make vague comments about “yeah, that new software, though…” I'm not sure this is legal, but it allows AdventHealth to avoid expensive overtime payments which they basically require their healthcare workers to “donate”.

Our Schools lied to us.

This idea of a fulfilling job that many of us were taught in school by our teachers about career goals and life choices is a one huge fallacy and a LIE. I was told that we will be HAPPY and be successful once we pursue and enrolled into college/university after our graduation commencements that our future will look bright but that is further from the truth when in reality, employers that actually work at the job are really miserable people. You look at all of these ads from college program campus books/catalogs of these volunteer cover students with all of their ” HAPPY ” faces portraying themselves that they are truly happy when really it's only there trying to SELL you something to make you believe that this program will be beneficial to you. I was too young and naïve to buy into this LIE as a teen but once…

Unpaid leave rejected as an intern

So, I've been interning in a certain company for a few months. In the tail-end of it, and about to go into university. There's stuff like orientations, pre-admissions tests, and medical checkups, i.e. un-frivolous things that I can NOT miss. I sent an email to the head of department and HR (as per protocol). My email clearly stated that these were prerequisites and determined my university admissions and campus life. Lo and behold, just received a reply that my unpaid leaves for these events are “rejected”. Like, what? Do they think I'm going to be like: “Oh… crap, I guess I'm NOT going go to a compulsory admissions test (and by extension, university), because my boss for 2 more weeks is NOT 'allowing' me to take leave that they're NOT going to pay me for.” How can you even reject unpaid leave? What do I even say in response to…

i don’t care what they think

Last week we got a call for a medical appointment in the afternoon and I need to leave home before 2:30pm. I sent an email to boss and dispatch requesting to let me WFH or schedule close home. They scheduled me 1.5hrs away from home which means mh second jobsite will last at best… 30 minutes. If they inquired why i will direct to the email. I am not asling permission, i am warning them.

Wife with stomach flu like symptoms (possibly covid) made to keep working because of coverage issues.

My wife texted me this morning saying she's vomiting and having water-like diarrhea. She works in a grocery store deli. (That's meats and cheese plus other food stuffs, in case someone doesn't know) Those symptoms should have sent her home as soon as she reported them to her boss at 6 am!! because of food safety regulations. It's now 8:30 am and she's still there working. She's telling me the next shift isn't there till noon. They close at 7pm and leave by 730pm typically. She is constantly being scheduled 10+ hours and when she's not scheduled for it, she ends up being asked to anyway. I told her they should have the closers come in a couple hours early and do 9 hours like she always does (maybe not even that given how early they close). Nope that's not possible. Ok find coverage from another store? Nope. This company…

getting your first bonus at work

You start work one month after everyone has recieved their bonus, and in your 11th month working there, they tell you you're not eligible for a bonus yet as you haven't completed 1 year. So you have to work essentially 2 years for your first bonus. Absolute trash. They should give your bonus 1 year after you complete your first year, and then adjust it the next year to when everyone else gets the bonus. Working with incompetent people and outdated policies is probably the worst.

Update to my previous post. I’m applying to other jobs and I no longer care.

original post I’ve been applying to other places including the company I turned down 3 years ago. I haven’t applied anywhere in those 3 years so now I am applying to places including a complete career change. I definitely don’t care anymore. Since I work from home, it’s pretty easy to work if I’m just slightly sick. Today is one of those days. I could definitely work today but idgaf. I called in sick because I’m slightly sick. Fuck them. I will be finding a new place that at least pays me more to work 5×8. (Based on salary ranges I am aware of, I am expecting at least a 30% increase to my salary and 2 extra weeks of vacation. I’m not trying to count my chickens before they hatch. I’ve just got one foot out the door now.
