I work at a bar/restaurant tent in a fair that is open for 2 weeks this summer. On weekends I work from 12am to 10pm cleaning tables, helping out in the kitchen and bringing stuff from the warehouse when it's needed. Today I left work later to help a bit more and I wanted to go straight home but my parents were visiting and asked me to stay, we walked around the fair for some time and they decided to have dinner and something to drink at the place I work at. I didn't eat anything because I already had dinner after leaving but I sat with them anyways, when they were done eating it was around 11:45pm and they asked me to go back inside, clean their table throw the plastic plates to the trash and get takeout bags for the leftovers as if I was still working. They…
Question about travel time pay
I am an electrician apprentice. I work for a small electrical services company. There are four employees, including myself. I have been working here for one week. Every day, we meet at the shop. From there, we drive company vehicles from jobsite to jobsite. At the end of the day, we drive the company vehicles from the last jobsite back to the shop before heading home. My employer does not pay us for the time spent driving from the last jobsite back to the shop. I don't think that is fair because driving the company vehicles back to the shop is still work; we're not doing it for the fun of it and we need to return to the shop to put the vehicles away before heading home. Our personal vehicles are at the shop all day. My gut tells me that we should be compensated for the time we…
I’ve been working for a dog boarding facility for about a month and a half. I got my 3rd ever check today and noticed the total number of hours I worked and got paid for were wrong. I would have never have known if an employee (who has since been fired) mentioned they had check discrepancies and warned me to keep an eye out. All of our hours disappear on the program after the week is over. The manager prints out our hours straight off the program, have us review it and sign the bottom. Well I started taking photos of the paper we sign to make sure I’m getting paid the correct amount. I picked up my check today and noticed I was shorted hours and texted my boss. He called me to ask what was wrong with my check and I said the hours were off. He stated…
Exploitation at it’s finest
Not to sound whiney about this y’all, it’s probs just a vent moment, but I’ve been job hunting for a year. I didn’t plan to take this much time off after leaving my previous job, but I kept getting crappy salary offers after interviewing and decided to keep going instead of settling. The new job is 80k salary which sounds great on paper, I know, but my previous salary was at 77k and I struggled financially then. (The new position is a level “below” what I did before. So less work, more pay) I have 2 young kids and I don’t receive any child support, rent is at least 2k for a nice-ish area with decent schools, food costs and gas prices are insane, utilities keep going up, the list goes on. I want to be excited and I should feel lucky! I should be happy that I can get…
