What would it take for you to strike?
I want to pose for discussion something that is a key contradiction for the working class in trying to create substantial change in state policy. While I'm in the U.S. and my perspective will be an American one, points of view from those in other countries are of course welcome. As many of us know, the working class's primary coercive force is that basically all economic activity depends on us showing up to work every day — and if there were to be a general strike, the working class would be in a much better position to make leveraged demands to improve our collective situation. BUT, what stops most of us from striking/demonstrating/protesting to the extent/frequency that the ruling elites would actually be inconvenienced is the fact that we are dependent on our jobs — not just for wages, but for healthcare, (unlikely) retirement, etc. None of us…
can any techies help me please?!
I somehow got signed out of Google so I cannot access YouTube for the past 2 hours, I've been racking my brain with no luck. The main problem is I can't remember my original password bc it was so long ago and they keep sending me alerts to my old phone number. Idk what to do. Can't find any customer service numbers that work so I guess I am sol until Monday when I can go to t-mobile.
Why am I even alive
If all I’m gonna do is work and browse Reddit till I fall asleep?
I work as a lifeguard at a location that rhymes with billa zport. (Texas btw) I have been working there since before summer started, making around $9.75 per hour. however just today I have been made aware that there are several people making more than me, notably a new hire who was brought on with a starting wage of 10.50. I know its not a significant difference but it still pisses me off because this is a large company and I just wouldn't know how to ask for a higher wage. well I talked to my coworkers and told them my plan. I would email my manager and tell him I request a new wage of $13.50 for all of the lifeguards. So I send a long email listing all of our complaints yada yada and i get a response no more than 30 minutes later telling me to keep…
Wanting to take 6 months off work
Hey! I figured this is probably a great place to post and ask something like this :). Anyone here taken a long break from the working life? I’m currently 27 and feeling super lost. Spent all my time since 18 going to uni, getting jobs, climbing ridiculous fake ladders in the tech world. I’m absolutely exhausted and to be honest don’t feel as though I’ve been true to myself and my passions. I want to quit my job and take a stretch of time off work completely and step away from that world to work on myself, pursue some passions and redirect my life-path. My girlfriend of 3 years is extremely supportive of this, but I can’t help worry that I’ll be digging into savings to live that might’ve gone to a house or future children down the line. Any advice or experiences would be super appreciated! 🙂
Those are the words that came out of my boomer manager’s mouth yesterday. Why is it always out of touch people like these that end up in power? Another story from the same manager if y’all missed it: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/vnj0s3/after_reading_countless_posts_about_shitty/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
The biggest scam…
I’m sorry if this isn’t the best place for this – I just love this sub. So I’m a contracted employee assigned to a very large company. As part of my duties I had to get quotes from vendors for a service. One of them came in about 7x higher than than the others on a per job basis. 5 figure difference. The work being done gets published. I can see two companies using the expensive vendor. I was a contractor with one for several years and have a great relationship with them. I’ve always been a wage earner and have zero desire to manage other people. I’ve debated starting my own company and just contracting directly but for this one thing they seem to prefer PE stamps (though it isn’t required). So my question is what should I do with this knowledge? Hook up my current vendor for a…
