Videogames are cool because you can do things that are impossible IRL

Like how in the Sims you get a job and a house.

If a job is essential to run society, it should be paid in a manner that allows its person to thrive. Not just survive.

I’m so tired of arguing with fucks on the internet about this. If there is a steady line of people just open and ready to take these jobs, why is literally every single one understaffed. How the absolute fuck did we see the devastating effects that a depleted workforce has on the economy in 2020, with people having to risk them and their families lives, for 10/hr, getting hurled words like “essential”, only to pick up this shitty attitude of “youre not worth more pay” two years later. If you set foot in a store, warehouse, coffee shop, restaurant, order off amazon, or consume literally anything, and you do not value the work that goes into it, you do not deserve these things. I just. Dont. Get. It. “Anyone can do it” is simply not true. A CEO couldn’t do a day in what their bottom level workers do. This…

Somehow My Safety Concern That I Shared Got Bastardized Into Me Not Working Hard Enough

So I work for a large logistics company where I spend most of my time training new hires to drive forklifts. It doesn’t offer higher pay than being a full time dockworker, but it’s pretty easy and I enjoy teaching people. Normally I train 2-3 people over the span of a month, and if someone is struggling I can usually give them an extra week of one-on-one attention to help round out the rough edges. However for the past couple months we’ve been hiring a lot more people than normal. Now I’m training 4-5 people at a time and my training schedule has been shortened by a week. On top of that, they’re no longer allowing me to spend extra time with new hires who are struggling. This has led to a noticeable drop in the quality of work, and a noticeable increase in unsafe diving, by new hires at…

Should I push to get paid for hours that my company’s clock-in system had removed over a month ago?

So I do a little side job for my mom’s company to help them go paperless before they move locations. Normally, I’m working from maybe 10pm – 1:30, far past the time anyone is going to be working in the office. They started making me use an app to clock in a couple months ago, and I just now found out that half the time that I’m clocked in after 11:59pm, my hours from 12:00 am onward get deleted. I just talked to my mom about it, and it sounds like she only wants me to check my hours from a month ago and drop it from there. When she told me that I really need to start checking my hours from now on, I told her, that as her daughter, yeah I’ll get working on that, but as her employee, she shouldn’t be putting the fault on me. She…

Owner Shocked to Discover Hilos Require Maintenance.

A lot of the hilos/forklifts at work have been overheating and breaking down recently. Today I had to let my hilo cool down because it was approaching dangerous temps. Boss walks by and I tell him that my hilo needs to be looked at. He gives me this disgruntled look and says how about five other hilos are in need of repairs as well. I just kinda smiled and went about my business. Bosses really think mechanical equipment and tools don't need to be maintained and taken care of; it's astonishing.
