I don't mean like giving someone a home depot shirt or something but having a dress code and providing no assistance to the employee. I'm starting a new job and asked about the dress code. Only sacrifice I'll have to do is shave my beard considerably which my friend said I was lucky as he had to buy his own safety shoes with no voucher or anything. My brother chimed in and mentioned that he has to work in clean, ironed suits at work (hotel) and he has to do the labor of maintaining them, cleaners and all that, on his own dime. He's also not allowed to wear the same thing back to back. This doesn't include other parts of grooming needed but he effectively has to dedicate parts of his schedule (and money) to maintaining all this and it's just for front desk work for mediocre wages. This…

8 hr shift no break. Crap sucks
Fired for, essentially being, Autistic.
As the title suggests, I recently was fired because of my disability and it is making me finding a different job even more difficult. Can anyone suggest a recourse that I cannot be fired for dishonesty (or rejected for dishonesty), if I omit this on a background check? I already have a lot of trouble getting hired despite my qualifications and this is going to be detrimental going forth as it paints a very false image of my character.
I’ve been training into learning something new last week and I’ve been focusing on that this week. For a few days now my lead has been telling me that he wants me to get trained into something new again, which I didn’t have an issue as long as I focus on one thing at a time. He’s been pressing on me to get trained for a few days now even though we’re behind, and according to him I basically have to keep up from learning something new and keep up with what I’m currently doing. Yesterday I have reached my limit. He came up to me with his whole spiel, I have to get trained and keep up. I’ve been trying my best to keep up and I’ve been keeping up. He walked away and after a few minutes came back again back with his whole spiel and I just…
$17.00/hr structural engineer
So I’ve been working at a mid-size structural engineering company that specializes in composite structures for two and a half years now. I started at the same time I began my MS which I earned in December. When I started, I was paid $17/hr which is way below what I should have, but I wasn’t too upset because I was had a good scholarship and made some extra grading HW and papers for uni. My manager is okay, he’s competent and I don’t really have any complaints about him. But, to be perfectly honest, I am the most technically proficient person at the company right now, the only one able to perform FEA, I have the most experience working with concrete, and I’ve built several software applications that save the company and everyone SO much time. Recently, the guy who started the company left for a real estate developer. I…
If you can’t survive on minimum wage…
I was talking with an Asian lady another day. We talked about the labour market in Ontario. I said that I found it difficult to live in Toronto with a job that only pays me minimum wage. My landlord is selling the house, so I need a new place to live soon. And I have to save up first month and last month rent for my next lease while still paying rent for my current place. I do get two days off during the weekend..cuz there is no work during the week in my line of work. But I am usually too tired to even leave my bed after a freaking long week. I saw a post here about minimum wage and the yearly salary: $16.5/h gives me $34,000 a year. AND my rate is $15.5/h! Yeah, I was complaining. But the lady said I had all this easy…she said…
